Completely renovated WATER MILL of the 17th century (1602) on the Agout River
Situation:
At the "foot" of Ferrières a significant Protestant centre and within 10 mn of Vabre and Brassac, 15 mn of Castres; 40 mn of Albi; 1 hour drive from Toulouse time; and 2 hours from Paris from the Airport de Castres-Labrugières.
The mill nestles within an exceptional site, at the bottom of a preserved, "wild" valley, in the Regional Park of High-Languedoc and in the heart of the Sidobre hills.
Its foundations sit directly on the rock and everywhere the granite is visible, down to the bed of the river.
The mill is built on River Agout, which is a 1st category river, set at an altitude of 450 meters.
Grounds:
Altogether, the property consists of 1 hectare 66 ares, of the river, along approximately 500 meters of the bank.
There is also a private island, not defined on the cadastral plan, which runs alongside the Mill race, with chestnut and oak trees.
The holding lake, the island and the waterfall, which total some 10,000 square meters, are visible from the office which is in the tower.
All the mill windows look over the river, the waterfalls or the 2 holding lakes.
Historical Background:
The property consists of a grand mill dating back to the early 17th century.
Archives indicate that the Mill de Record was built by the Gartoule family (purchase contract dated 30 October 1602, held by Bouïssès, notaire).
The next named owner was Jean Record (contract of 16 June 1661, held by Carayon, notary with Brassac).
In 1699-1700 Jean Marty was the miller.
En 1727 Joseph Ricard is names as the miller with the Mill de Record, in a contract witnessed by Louis de Juge (A.D folio I71).
On June 27, 1748, Godefroy de Gartoule signed a farming lease from Etienne Marty for the Mill (ADA81-3E.8/83).
Buildings:
On June 30, 2001, Régis Granier, director of SoLaCo de Vabre, was awarded 1st Prize of "Fondation du Patrimoine du Tarn" for the quality of the restoration of the Mill de Record.
Perfect mastery of traditional techniques allowed his two associates: Michel Rouanet and Didier Vidal, to build a "turret", with staircase and arch, integrating it beautifully with the old buildings.

The principal dwelling is on 2 levels, and comprises an area of 240 m2: including a vestibule, a laundry with sink, a cellar, a cloakroom, a vast living room of 55 m² with chimney and elm staircase, an office and a library with its separate entrance (these last rooms could easily be made independent of the main dwelling, and turned into a gite or chamber hote with an area of 27 m²), there is a kitchen, WC with wash-hand basin, a bedroom with granite ensuite and wash basin.
